The Golf Society 10 Commandments

1 Thou shall know the RULES OF GOLF. And knowing them, shall enforce them, as honestly as possible, even on thine self,if in doubt ask thy partner

2 Thou shall Dress neatly no tracksuits or round collars.

3 Thou shall always arrive in time for the Draw.

4 Thou shall not engage in SLOW PLAY.

5 Remember always to keep the GREENS in a heavenly state. Thou shall repair all pitch marks, even those made by thine neighbour and thou shall replace divots.

6 Thou shall never leave trollies in front of greens. Nor leave them on the wrong side of the green. Thou shall always leave by the shortest route to the nearest tee box.

7 Thou shall never - NEVER - mark thine Cards on the green. Greens are for putting on, not for marking cards.

8 Thou shall always rake a bunker when your shot is complete.

9 Thou shall always observe GOOD MANNERS on the course and keep thy voice down, so that it shall not distract the play of thy neighbours.

10 Thou shall take infinite care in marking and signing of thy card before Handing it in to the Secretary, this ensuring thy winning score shall not be disqualified

Be Ready to Play

Players should be ready to play as soon as it is their turn to play.When

playing on or near the putting green, they should leave their bags or

carts in such a position as will enable quick movement off the green

and towards the next tee. When the play of a hole has been

completed, players should immediately leave the putting green.

Lost Ball

If a player believes his ball may be lost outside a water hazard or is out

of bounds, to save time, he should play a provisional ball.

Players searching for a ball should signal the players in the group

behind them to play through as soon as it becomes apparent that the

ball will not easily be found.They should not search for five minutes

before doing so. Having allowed the group behind to play through,

they should not continue play until that group has passed and is out

of range.

Priority on the Course

Unless otherwise determined by the Committee, priority on the

course is determined by a group’s pace of play. Any group playing a

whole round is entitled to pass a group playing a shorter round.The

term “group” includes a single player.

Care of the Course

Bunkers

Before leaving a bunker, players should carefully fill up and smooth over

all holes and footprints made by them and any nearby made by others.

If a rake is within reasonable proximity of the bunker, the rake should

be used for this purpose.

Repair of Divots, Ball-Marks and Damage by Shoes

Players should carefully repair any divot holes made by them and any

damage to the putting green made by the impact of a ball (whether or

not made by the player himself). On completion of the hole by all

The procedure for Golf Ties

For 18 hole events the best score for the last 9 holes will be used, if there is still a tie, the last 6 holes, or if still tied, the last 3 holes. If a tie persists, then hole by hole from the 18th.

The Rule when playing the wrong ball.

In most cases, playing the wrong ball results in loss of hole in match play and a two-stroke penalty in stroke play. The only exception is when a golfer takes a swing at a wrong ball that is moving in water inside a water hazard.
In stroke play, the offender must go back and replay any shots with the correct ball.
A player whose ball was incorrectly played by a competitor or partner should play a ball as close to the original spot as can be determined.
In stroke play, a competitor can be disqualified if the mistake of playing a wrong ball is not corrected before teeing off from the next teeing ground.
Remember its your score that counts so keep an eye on what ball you play,it can be the difference between winning and losing.Mark your ball!!

Well done to all the winners on the day in Bodyke i think we finally got it right this time!

The player of the year leaderboard is pretty tight at the moment no one giving quarter but there is along way to go yet and it could be you!!!!
Well done to Tom Buckley our new member! he is setting down an early challenge to one an all, "no Tom haven't for gotten", it's on it's way,Bahamas,Dubai etc,Will i ever be forgiven?
Well done to our old age pensioner another fine performance, the back nine is taking its toll i see,
more road work needed, i reckon that dog is getting a tad heavy.
See ye all in Ardagh for round 3!....
